5.21 Other Benefits
5.21.1 Social Security – With the exception of employees who use the Ministerial Housing Allowance and Student Workers, all employees are covered by social security. A required percentage of an employee’s salary is deducted to pay the employee’s portion of this protection and the College matches this deduction dollar for dollar. The plan was designed for an employee’s future security and that of their dependents by providing retirement, disability, death survivor and Medicare benefits.
5.21.2 Unemployment Compensation – Rochester University participates in the Michigan Unemployment Compensation program. Coverage is provided for unemployment transpiring through no disqualifying fault of the employee. Decisions regarding eligibility are reserved by the State of Michigan. 5.21.3 Workers’ Compensation – The College carries insurance to cover the cost of work-incurred injury or illness. Benefits help pay for an employee’s medical treatment and for part of the income lost while recovering. Specific benefits are prescribed by law depending on the circumstances in each case. To ensure maximum coverage, all work related accidents must be reported immediately to the Human Resources Office.
5.21.4 Rochester Athletic Club – Membership to the Rochester Athletic Club is available to employees and their families at a discounted rate. Inquiries and interest in membership are to be directed to the Human Resources Office.
5.21.5 Car Rental Discounts – Employees may receive a discounted rate on car rentals. Enterprise discount code: 20M6580. Avis Corporate Discount: (AWD#) L333028.
5.21.6 Verizon Wireless – Employees are eligible to receive a discount on a personal Verizon Wireless plan. The employee must be the primary account holder in order to be eligible for the discount. Discount forms are available in the Human Resources Office or on the Staff and Faculty Portal.
5.21.7 AT&T Wireless – Employees are eligible to receive a discount on a personal AT&T Wireless plan. The employee must be the primary account holder in order to be eligible for the discount. www.att.com/governmentemployees
5.21.8 Sprint Wireless – Employees are eligible to receive a discount on a personal Sprint Wireless plan. The employee must be the primary account holder in order to be eligible for the discount. www.sprint.com/verify
5.21.9 College Store – Employees are eligible to receive a 20% discount on items purchased from the College Store.
5.21.10 Survivor’s Benefits – Beginning with the third year of full-time employment, the employee receives a survivor’s benefit plan equal to three months full salary. The benefit will be paid in six (6) equal installments over a three month period. Payment will be made to one of the deceased employee’s dependents, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. The payment is considered a grant rather than a salary. Minor children of the deceased employee will receive Rochester University tuition discounts at the level they would have received at the time of the employee’s death.
There are no survivor’s benefits for part-time employees.
