5.12 Jury Duty

Purpose

To provide employees to secure limited time off when needed for jury duty.

Scope

The policy applies to full-time employees of Rochester University.

Policy

Full-time regular employees summoned for jury duty are paid the difference between their normal rate of pay and the jury duty pay for up to one week. Thereafter, the leave is unpaid or the employee may choose to use their paid time off (PTO). Part-time regular and temporary employees are granted an unpaid leave in order to serve.

  • Employees must provide the College with a copy of the court payment records in order to be compensated.
  • Exempt employees may be provided time off with pay when necessary to comply with state and federal wage and hours laws.
  • Rochester University reserves the right to request proof of jury service issued by the court upon return.
  • Make arrangements with your supervisor as soon as you receive your summons.
  • Rochester University expects you to return to your job if you are excused from jury duty during your regular working hours.
