9.9 Chapel/Convocation

Every full-time traditional student now participates in the Rochester University Chapel/Convocation series (RCC) which replaces the previous chapel program. The RCC series offers opportunities for students to participate in events and activities aimed at building Christian faith and community, affirming Christian values, and developing the whole person. RCC options include regularly scheduled Chapel and Convocation events, as well as various small group opportunities and service initiatives.

Each semester, students participate in RCC by being enrolled without charge in “RCC 2001: Chapel/Convocation.” RCC 2001 carries one academic credit and is assigned a letter grade at the end of the semester based on the following 25 point scale:

25 points or more A
23-24 B
21-22 C
19-20 D
18 or fewer F

Points are earned by participating in various RCC events. Most RCC events earn one point each and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:10am and 11:40am. Attendance at monthly Convocations earns double points. The academic credit does not count toward degree requirements but is calculated as part of a student’s overall GPA.

All members of the President’s Cabinet, faculty chairpersons and full-time faculty are expected to attend monthly convocation. All other College personnel are encouraged to attend chapel one day per week. Supervisors should make reasonable effort to provide personnel the opportunity to attend chapel one day per week as the workload and mission permit. This may include an office-rotating schedule if appropriate.
