16.9 Maintenance and Repair

Facility maintenance and repair are critical to campus safety, facility longevity, image, and campus atmosphere. College personnel should be observant to needed repairs and upkeep of campus facilities.

All campus grounds and buildings are maintained by the Operations Department. Requests for repair and maintenance should be emailed to helpdesk@rc.edu or phoned to the helpdesk at 248-218-2080.

Maintenance requests will be evaluated by the Helpdesk for appropriate action. Should the request be denied or significantly delayed, the originator will be notified at the earliest opportunity. Repairs which do not alleviate the problem or require additional attention should be brought to the attention of the Director of Operations.

Emergency repairs should be identified immediately to the Helpdesk. In the event maintenance personnel are unavailable or after normal hours, immediately notify campus security who will notify the Director of Operations or maintenance employee at home. As with all emergencies, personnel safety is first priority.

16.9.1 Office Painting and Decorating

To retain continuity, harmony, and a professional appearance, the College prefers to keep color standards for building exteriors and interiors. These color standards affect paint, wallpaper, trim, carpet, and all exposed surfaces.

In addition to color standards, selected products must conform to commercial or industrial grade specifications to the greatest extent possible. These specifications help assure that maintainability, durability, and quality are acquired.

In keeping with these standards, all campus painting and decorating must be coordinated with and approved by the Director of Operations, whether or not College funds are to be used.

Personnel desiring to paint or decorate their office at their own expense should receive approval from Director of Operations prior to the commitment of personal funds. In the event approval has not been given, the employee will be required to return the office to its original state.
