12.2 Temporary Housing on Campus for Employees

Purpose

To establish policy for employees to temporarily live on campus during a transitory move.

Policy

Campus housing* may be used by employees under the following guidelines. Use of campus housing is designed to help mitigate the inconvenience of relocation and house hunting. Campus housing is designed as a short-term assistance for employees.

  1. New employees. During an initial move to the Rochester area, employees may temporarily reside in campus housing during summer months at no expense, providing rooms are available without displacing students. During the school year, employees may temporarily reside in campus housing providing students are not displaced and a rental fee is received for the use of the room. A rental contract shall be used during this period, which specifically states the use period. The rental fee shall be equal to the highest fee charged for married student housing.
  2. Current employees. Employees may temporarily reside in campus housing during moves or for special reasons providing students are not displaced and a rental fee is received for the use of the room. A rental contract shall be used during this period, which specifically states the use period. The rental fee shall be equal to the highest fee charged for married student housing.
  3. Non-employees or non-student. Campus housing is not intended for use by non-campus connected individuals. Use by persons other than employees or enrolled students must be approved by the president. Individuals not directly connected to the campus pose unique and special liability issues for insurance, injuries, and other possible problems.

*Campus housing is defined as any campus resident hall room or Palmer housing.
