A. Shared Governance

Rochester Christian University is a private, faith-based institution, led by a self-perpetuating board of trustees.

Rochester Christian University operates by the principle of shared governance. According to the AAUP (American Association of University Professors), shared governance “refers to governance of higher education institutions in which responsibility is shared by faculty, administrators, and trustees” (http://www.aaup.org/AAUP/about/mission/glossary.htm).

Rochester Christian University follows the guidelines of the AAUP by granting faculty with primary responsibility in educational matters, such as curriculum, subject matter and methods of instruction, research, faculty status, and those aspects of student life which relate to the educational process. Faculty committees and the Faculty Senate are the main avenues through which faculty oversee these responsibilities. The academic division operates under the general supervision of the president of Rochester Christian University.
