4.3 Wages and Hours for Student Employees

Purpose

To establish and provide guidelines to individuals supervising student employees in regards to wages and hours.

Scope

Employees who supervise Student Employees.

Policy

  • Hours of Work – Student Employees are allowed to work up to twenty (20) hours per week while classes are in session. Student Employees may work up to thirty (30) hours per week during school breaks.
  • Pay-Days – Student employees are paid semi-monthly, on the 15th and last day of each month. If the day falls on a weekend or holiday, pay will be distributed the Friday prior. Student employees are paid one pay period behind. Work performed:
    • 1st – 15th of month – paid on last day of month
    • 16th – last day of month – paid 15th of following month
  • Overtime – Student employees are not permitted to work more than thirty (30) hours in a given week, Monday through Sunday, at any time.
  • Distribution – Paychecks are sent to the department in which a student works each payday. Department Managers are responsible for distributing checks to the student employees once received from payroll. Direct deposit statements are available online via Paycor.
