Overviews the major twentieth-century upheavals that brought the United States into a dominant position in the world theater and transformed its political and social landscape. Closely examines the First World War and the peace; the "Roaring twenties;" the Depression and New Deal; World War II; and the onset of the Cold War. PR: Sophomore status or departmental approval required.
