Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) must review all research projects involving the participation of human subjects or use of materials of human origin before the research can be conducted. This requirement includes all research, from low-risk investigations, such as surveying people on the street about their favorite television shows, to high-risk studies, such as clinical trials of experimental medical treatments.
Students who plan to conduct human subject research should work with faculty from the student’s department to ensure that all IRB deadlines are met before data collection begins or the study is initiated.
