EDU 2233 Holistic Teaching
PK-12 schools are called upon to provide positive learning environments that allow students to learn social-emotional skills as well as academic content. Students complete the course early in the teacher education professional sequence. The course focuses on how teachers can create positive learning environments that can provide students with a sense of safety and belonging. Ways to encourage student resilience through curricular support and student-centered classrooms are explored. In addition, the course encourages teacher candidates to develop the knowledge and skills to connect with families, teach social-emotional skills, help students learn to learn, and offer a multi-tiered system of supports.
