Health Sciences, BS

The BS in Health Sciences major has been designed for students interested in pursuing studies at either a pharmacy school or a physical therapy school. This degree will provide the essential background and requirements to enter these health-related programs. Students should consult the requirements of the specific programs to which they plan to apply.

Program Learning Outcomes

The following learning outcomes are linked to assignments and activities throughout this program. After completing program requirements,

  1. Graduates will be able to apply content knowledge, critical thinking, and the methods of science.
  2. Graduates will apply proper safety and ethical practices in laboratory, clinical, and work environments.
  3. Graduates will be able to evaluate the validity of original research and the conclusions drawn from this research.
  4. Graduates will be able to communicate effectively in written, oral, and visual forms.
  5. Graduates will demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to respectful and ethical practices and treatment of others. They have considered their vocational goals and are reflective of how these may be embodied in their professional and/or personal lives.

Requirements for the BS in Health Sciences

General Education Core 43-46 hours

For Pre-Physical Therapy, the following general education requirements are covered in the major: Social and Behavioral Science. For Pre-Physical Therapy, MAT 1334 is required to satisfy Critical Thinking/Math Competency. CHE 1314 and CHE 1324 are required to satisfy Lab Science.

For Pre-Pharmacy, MAT 1334 is required to satisfy Critical Thinking/Math Competency. CHE 1514 and CHE 1524 are required to satisfy Lab Science.
