Intensive Travel Policy
Intensive Travel Policy
Due to the value of learning on-site as a cohort, the MREML requests that students be physically present at all four intensives and retreats during the program. To participate in the on-site experiences, students are responsible for the following:
- All transportation arrangements and expenses to and from the intensive site.
- All lodging arrangements and lodging expenses during the intensive.
- Most food expenses during the intensive.
- Depending on the location and activities of the retreat/intensive, the MREML sometimes makes lodging and/or transportation arrangements for the students. Additionally, the program provides water, snacks, and some meals during travel. The MREML will communicate at least one month in advance the meals, lodging, and/or transportation that will be arranged/provided.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances arise. Exceptions will be made for:
- Disability or medical condition that prohibits travel.
- Positive Covid test within 5 days prior to travel (or if student has not recovered well and needs additional time at home to rest).
- Other illness/accident that arises near time of travel.
- Being a primary care-taker for a loved one who is ill or unable to care for themselves (and having no other options for someone to care in student’s place while traveling).
- A church event or other travel that either was scheduled prior to being admitted into the program or arises due to a recent job change.
If a student is unable to travel, they should notify the directors of the MREML at least one month prior to travel when possible. Other exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis by the directors of the program. Virtual attendance or an alternative way of engaging the course content will still be required to receive course credit.
If finances make it prohibitive for a student to travel, please contact the directors at least one month prior to the intensive, and we will look for assistance.
We understand that students have many expectations placed on them as ministers. We ask students to avoid scheduling church events, important meetings, and family vacations during intensives. If a student chooses not to travel, and:
- it does not fall within the exceptions listed above,
- the student does not notify the directors in advance,
- and lodging reservations are already made that includes the student as a guest,
- then the student will be subject to paying their portion of the reservations.
