BIB 5143 Missional Hermeneutics
This course focuses on the interpretation of Scripture in missional communities. The course proceeds on the assumption that Scripture generates meanings in relation to the questions of an interpretative community. What we ask and with whom we ask it determines to a great extent our interpretation of Scripture. Attention will be given to orienting students to the possibilities and problems of philosophical hermeneutics, including the work of Heidegger, Gadamer, and Ricoeur. Various proposals toward a missional hermeneutics will be explored to bring into focus the missional themes, and the manner in which biblical authors negotiate texts and contexts in their own work. Particular attention will be given to Paul, Exodus, Deuteronomy-Isaiah, and Luke-Acts. Course fee.
