ENG 1003 Basic Writing

Practice with summarizing and responding to published material. Emphasizes reading comprehension as well as practice with revision and editing for content, organization, grammar, punctuation, and style. Attention to applying college study skills to assignments. Students are placed in ENG 1003 Basic Writing if they have a score of 440 or below in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing on the new SAT or a score of 30 or below in English + Reading on the ACT test. Students who earn a C or higher in this course progress to ENG 1114 Composition A with Workshop. Students may earn up to 6 hours of elective credit for developmental courses taken at Rochester University.
